Mirage Dragons

Description

Mirage dragons are unique little wyvern-type dragons. Their scales can reflect light at will in such a way that makes them vanish completely. They are known to be mischievous troublemakers and most are wary of them. They live in colonies and are quite social.

They are very known to love sparkly shiny things. They love them so much that unfortunately sometimes they can't control their urges to steal these things from market stalls. They seem to have expensive tastes so they'll go for jewelry most of the time, but sometimes they will fixate on common household things like silverware if it catches their eye.

They are akin to raptors in that alone they likely won't be able to win any fights, but as a group that's a different story. They are not known to be aggressive unprovoked.

Appearance

Their bodies are various shades of teal with red markings painted onto them. They keep themselves immaculately clean to ensure their camouflage always works flawlessly, so when they're visible they sparkle and reflect light in many colors. People often say they look like living glass sculptures.

They are on the smaller side, standing at around 4ft if they stood as tall as they could.

Population Decline

They used to be found in all parts of Nophra, but they have had a hard time surviving in present day. They have one last clan with a fair number of individuals living in the whistling oasis of the Enku desert. They are fiercely protected by Hoshi, who considers them family. People who don't live near the desert are likely to have never seen one in their entire life and may even think they are only a fable.

Ceremonial Markings

Mirage dragons practice a rituals that involve painting markings on each other out of red paint that they make from the pigment of certain flowering cacti. It's a bonding ritual and is very important to them.

They often do this thing where they'll vanish and only their red markings remain. They'll pose in such a way that it looks like there's a painting on the wall behind them or something. Some of them paint scary markings on themselves and intentionally go around creeping people out. If they have a serious need to be invisible, they'll wash the markings off.
